Compared with typical vertebrates, turtle muscles have undergone some radical alterations due to the presence of a shell.
Some of the muscles normally present in other reptiles have disappeared in turtles, while some have evolved accordingto their special functions.
For example, the muscles enabling the flexion of the spine are obsolete in turtles, on the other hand ,the muscles of the neck and limbs are very well developed.
Also the jaw closing muscles are very powerfull, especially in preditory species as
Chelydra serpentina - the common snapping turtle.
