The alligator snapping turtles are not difficult to handle. Their necks are short, and despite their powerful jaws, which they will keep
open and ready to snap when handled, they can be easily managed.
The best way to hold an alligator snapper is to do it by the sides of its shell. The only difficulty will be with larger adult
specimen. Only a fit and strong person will be able to comfortably lift a 100 pound alligator snapper. The best way to handle these beasts
is to hold them with one hand by the edge of their carapace above their head, and with the other hand by the edge above the tail. It is
easy and safe to maneuver them this way.
Large snappers have huge heads and very powerful and sharp jaws. They should always be handled by experienced adults, and never by children.
A bite from an adult alligator snapper can be very damaging, possibly removing a persons fingers if cought.
