The best way to handle these beasts is to hold them with one hand by the edge of their carapace above their head, and with the other hand by the edge above the tail. It is easy and safe to maneuver them this way.

Large snappers have huge heads and very powerful and sharp jaws. They should always be handled by experienced adults, and never by children. A bite from an adult alligator snapper can be very damaging, possibly removing a persons fingers if cought.
