This pigment, called melanin, is a product of metabolism of the amino acid tyrosine, and albinism occurs when
melanocytes fail to produce it. Turtles having such defficiency look pale, white or yellow with red eyes. There are any turtles
which are partially albinos - they are called albinotic, and they are much paler in comparison with their regular cousins.
Albino and albinotic turtles are rare in nature. Being different they are easily spotted by preditors and most don't survive to reach
the adulthood.
Albino turtles, and albino morps of other animals like snakes for example, are very desired by pet keepers. Albino turtles are rare
and can be quite expensive.
