The difference between males and females shows mainly in the structure of the tail. Male snapper's tail is longer and thicker.
Also, the vent is located much further from the edge of the plastron then that of the female.
It is very difficult to see this difference in hatchlings, but easy to spot as the turles grow. An adult male snapper will also
'expose' its penis, which is called a temporary paralapse.
